Gather the photos before you start
One clear, well-lit, front-facing photo per person. Newborn photos are the hardest, so use one where the baby's face is visible and not in deep shadow or half covered by a hat.
Ask what they said they'd do
New grandparents announce their plans constantly in the first month. Write those down and put them in the story. Being quoted back to themselves is most of the effect.
Give the printing two weeks

How many people can be in the book?
Up to five characters in total, including pets, and each one can have their own photo so they are illustrated as themselves. That is usually enough for both grandparents, the parents, and the baby.
What kind of photo works for a newborn?
One where the baby's face is clearly visible, well lit, and not obscured by a hat, blanket, or heavy shadow. Newborn references are the trickiest ones, so it is worth taking a fresh photo specifically for this rather than using a favorite that happens to be dim.
Is this a good baby shower gift?
It works better once the baby has arrived, simply because you need a photo of them for the illustrations. Before the birth, a book starring the grandparents-to-be alone is possible, but most people prefer to wait so the grandchild can be in it.
What comes in the printed edition?
